Non Convertible Debentures (NCDs) or Bonds are debt investments in which an investor lends money to an entity (corporation or governmental) that borrows the funds for a specified period of time at a fixed interest rate.
Bonds, commonly referred to as fixed-income securities, are issued by public and private institutions to finance a variety of projects and activities. It is one of the three main asset classes, along with stocks and cash equivalents.
Reduces downside risk: Non-Convertible Debentures reduce the investor's risk as they are backed by the company's assets.
Offers higher rate of interest: Return offered on NCDs are relatively higher than fixed deposits or postal savings or similar investment avenues.
Tax exemptions: No tax is levied on investment in listed debentures. Besides, listing of NCDs on exchanges like NSE and BSE provides liquidity to your investments.
